Silk Care

Silk is a beautiful, delicate fabric derived from nature. We take pride in our organically dyed silks. To increase the longevity of your silk, we advise the following:

DRY-CLEAN

To preserve your silk’s optical sheen, we recommend taking your silk item to a dry-cleaning specialist.

HAND-WASH

  • Fill a basin or sink with cold water.
  • Add a quarter teaspoon of a gentle, pH-neutral detergent suitable for delicate fabrics like silk.
  • Submerge the silk item in the water and gently agitate it for a few seconds. Do not let it soak for more than five minutes.
  • Gently press out excess water from the silk item without wringing or twisting it.
  • Lay the silk flat on a clean towel or drying rack and allow it to dry in indirect sunlight, preferably indoors.

CAUTION

Due to silk’s delicate nature, it is important to avoid the following:

  • Choose a detergent that does not contain protease, enzymes, alcohol, bleach, acids, or alkalines, as these substances can dissolve the silk’s protein-based natural fabric.
  • Avoid using an iron at high temperatures, as exposure to high heat can stain or burn the silk fabric. Instead, use a steam iron at a low temperature setting if necessary.
  • When washing the silk fabric, ensure that the water temperature does not exceed 30°C (86°F).
  • Do not over-wash or oversoak the silk item for more than five minutes, as excessive washing may result in discoloration.

Additional Tips:

  • Separate Colors: When washing silk items, especially if they are colored or patterned, it is advisable to separate them by color to prevent color bleeding or transfer.
  • Gentle Handling: Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric forcefully. Gently squeeze out excess water after washing.
  • Test for Colorfastness: Before washing, test a small area for color transfer.
  • Avoid Spot Cleaning: Wash the entire item instead of spot cleaning to prevent uneven color or watermarks.
  • Storage: Store silk items in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Fold them neatly and store in a breathable fabric bag or box.
  • Avoid Contact with Perfume and Cosmetics: Apply these products before wearing silk or allow them to fully dry.
  • Remove Jewelry and Accessories: Prevent snags or tears by removing sharp jewelry or accessories.
